This post is part of a campaign in partner with ABLE United, however all opinions are mine.
Whether we want to or not financial decisions impact our everyday lives, no matter how big or small these decisions might be. From budgeting for weekly groceries to determining investment options for retirement. Financial education is the first step to achieving financial independence, but it’s also true that more often than not we don’t have enough information to start a successful financial journey. It is also clear that we are not alone in this matter. As we all know that many in our community need resources and targeted education to help them better understand the issues affecting their finances – particularly in the disability community. And I see myself in this group.
Financial information and tools to plan for the future of our family members with disability are not always in our reach. And this not mean they are not important. As a caregivers of our love ones we are so busy in this matter that most of the time we fall short to care on the financial future. And this has to change.
Results from the National Disability Institute’s report on Financial Capability of Adults with Disabilities tell us that people with disabilities are having more difficulty than others covering expenses, paying bills, saving, coming up with funds in an emergency, planning ahead, and effectively managing money. In fact, responses to a survey measuring basic financial knowledge showed that individuals with disabilities showed to be twice as challenged compared to individuals without disabilities. This sounds so familiar to me. I mean I see people in the community and is so obvious that their lives are not easy, in fact this is the most common concern among the parents of children with disabilities.
But here is the news! In celebration of National Financial Literacy Month, ABLE United is hosting a webinar on how you can save tax-free and invest for you or your loved one’s future. Representatives from Callan, ABLE United’s investment consultants, will help current and prospective account holders understand investing, risk, performance, and the differences between each of ABLE United’s investment options.
