This post is part of a campaign in partner with ABLE United, however all opinions are mine.
For me learning about ABLE United was a joy, finally parents of special needs children can have a reliable plan. If you don’t know about ABLE United, I will be happy to explain. You see, parents of kids with special needs like myself worry every minute about our kids future. If we leave any asset for them it can hurt the possibility of access to any service such as Social Security, or medicaid. So us parents feel hands are tied in order to secure in the life of our kids. Since I learned that my daughter has Autism I worry about her future a lot. I know this is the main concern of all the parents of kids with special needs. What will happen to them when will not be around? We’ve done all we could to help our kids but frankly this concern is always on my mind.
Now Florida’s residents have the option that ABLE United bring: with an account they will be able to save up to $14,000 annually, and this funds will help to support any need the people with disability may have such a health, housing, transportation, and basic living expenses.
ABLE United is a program that was established to encourage and assist people with disabilities to save private funds to support health, independence and quality of life. It allows individuals to save without affecting benefits like Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Medicaid while the funds in the account grow tax-free! Now individuals with disabilities have an opportunity to truly invest in their financial future.
This are some of the benefits that ABLE United provide:
- The funds saved in the account generally will not affect government benefits like Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
- The ability to use funds from the account to pay for a wide variety of expenses tax-free.
- The account is owned by the individual with the disability, though an authorized person may establish and help oversee the account.
- Anyone can contribute to the account, allowing the individual to save with the help of family and friends.
